PRIVATE PLACEMENT MOBILISATION UP 65% IN `97-98
Article Abstract:
According to Prime Database, debt mobilisation through private placement increased by 65 percent in 1997-98. Around 146 institutional and corporate organisations placed debt privately through 239 issues. A total of Rs30,359 crore was mobilised in 1997-98 (Rs18,391 crore mobilised in 1996-97 by 159 organisations). Government organisations mobilised 76 percent of the total debt (90 percent in 1996-97). National financial institutions and banks accounted for 40 percent share amounting to Rs12,116 crore while state level undertakings accounted for 20 percent amounting to Rs6,726 crore. Public sector units accounted for 13 percent share at Rs3,988 crore while state financial institutions accounted for one percent share totaling Rs405 crore. During 1997-98, the highest debt arranger was SBI Caps, which mobilised Rs12,812 crore. DSP Merrill Lynch mobilised Rs12,730 crore, RR Financial mobilised Rs11,284 crore while Kotak Mahindra mobilised Rs10,370 crore. (gsh)

MFs SHOW 45% GROWTH IN RESOURCE MOBILISATION
Article Abstract:
The Economic Survey 1998-99 has revealed that resource mobilisation by mutual funds (MFs) has increased by 45 percent during April-October 1998. Mutual funds have mobilised Rs14,288 crore (Rs9,797 crore during April-October 1997). The Unit Trust of India mobilised Rs9,187 crore, while private sector mutual funds mobilised Rs4,096 crore and public sector mutual funds Rs1,005 crore. There was also an increase in the number of schemes under which funds were mobilised from 20 to 26 during April-October 1998. (uh)(vr)
